2,000-Year-Old Earthen Vessels Unearthed Near Bargur
  • Last Saturday, excavation work was carried out to build a temple for a *Nadukal* (hero stone) located on land owned by Vellachiyammal in Kandikuppam village, near Bargur in Krishnagiri district.
  • During the process, black-and-red pottery shards and two earthen vessels were discovered. These are small black-and-red vessels measuring 5 cm in height and 10 cm in width.
  • Additionally, a slightly larger black-and-red earthen pot measuring 10 cm in height and 16 cm in diamete was found in a partially broken condition. A broken black-and-red ware plate, measuring approximately 1.25 feet in diameter, has been found.
  • Clan markings associated with a deceased leader are drawn at regular intervals on the vessels; these designs consist of six segments. Additionally, five horn-shaped clay elements which served as supports for a jar-like vessel were discovered; these would have been attached to the base of the jar.
  • A black-and-red ware pan, measuring 32 cm in diameter and 15 cm in height, was also found; it appears to have been used as a lid. Fragments of smaller pans were also recovered. Clan symbols are incised on all these earthenware vessels.
