First Meeting of the Tamil Nadu Cabinet Led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay
  • The first official consultative meeting of the Tamil Nadu Cabinet, led by the newly sworn-in Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, was held at the Secretariat in Chennai.
  • During this one-hour cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay, a 'Vision Document' intended to guide the new government was discussed in detail. 
  • This plan is structured around ten key pillars, grounded in the principles of the three sections Virtue (Aram), Wealth (Porul), and Pleasure (Inbam) of the Thirukkural, the universal ethical treatise. These pillars are further categorized into 54 sub-pillars, with a total of 436 vision goals established.
Jayaprakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary Declared India's 100th Ramsar Site
  • The Jayaprakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, has been declared the country's 100th Ramsar site. The Prime Minister stated that this wetland, being rich in avian biodiversity, attracts a vast number of both migratory and resident birds.
Provisional Estimates of Annual GDP for 2025-26
  • The Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the provisional estimates of annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2025-26, as well as the GDP estimates for the first quarter of the 2025-26 financial year. 
  • New series of annual and quarterly GDP estimates, based on the 2022-23 base year, were released on February 27, 2026. While the first revised GDP estimate for the year 2024-25 stood at ₹299.89 lakh crore, the GDP for the 2025-26 fiscal year is projected at ₹323.12 lakh crore. This represents a growth rate of 7.7%, compared to the 7.1% growth recorded in the previous year.
  • Regarding quarterly estimates, while the GDP for the fourth quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year was estimated at ₹86.75 lakh crore, the GDP for the fourth quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year is projected at ₹94.65 lakh crore. This indicates a growth rate of 9.1%.
Repo Rate to Remain at 5.25% – RBI Announcement
  • The three-day meeting of the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) concluded today. It was announced that the repo rate the interest rate at which the RBI lends short-term funds to commercial banks will remain unchanged at 5.25%.
  • The RBI has maintained its policy stance as 'neutral'. India's real GDP growth projection for the current fiscal year has been lowered to 6.6% from the earlier forecast of 6.9%.
  • The RBI has projected Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation for the current fiscal year at 5.1%. This is 50 basis points (0.50%) higher than the previous forecast.
