- The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with the Bengaluru-based private firm Accord Software & Systems Pvt. Ltd. to procure 20 advanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) jammers for the Indian Navy at a cost of ₹449 crore.
- These systems will feature a minimum of 75% indigenous content. The contract was signed in New Delhi on June 10, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh.
- The capabilities of the procured system include intercepting adversary satellite signals, degrading monitoring performance, and spoofing or diverting signals. This will enable Indian Navy ships to operate safely in environments fraught with multi-faceted threats.
- This contract reinforces the government's commitment to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) and 'Make in India,' while strengthening the nation's maritime security infrastructure. This serves as a key element in efforts to strengthen defense capabilities and develop advanced military technology indigenously.
- The 64th interim session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) addressing global warming and environmental protection, which are critical threats facing the Earth has officially commenced in Bonn, Germany.
- This session is regarded as a crucial preparatory discussion for the upcoming major global climate summit. Nations across the world are engaging in detailed deliberations regarding future safeguard strategies.
- A major focus of this 64th interim session is the intense debate concerning the financial aid and compensation that high-carbon-emitting developed nations should provide to help developing and underdeveloped countries cope with the impacts of climate change.
- In particular, emphasis is being placed on significantly increasing the 'adaptation fund' to enable affected nations to overhaul their infrastructure.
- Environmental experts at the conference are advocating for the full implementation of 'Belem Indicators' to monitor how precisely nations are adhering to climate change control targets.
