Crop Loan Waiver in Cooperative Banks – Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay Makes Bold Announcement
- A key review meeting was held today (May 25, 2026) at the Secretariat, presided over by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. During this meeting, keeping the welfare of farmers in mind, the Chief Minister issued a bold announcement regarding the waiver of crop loans obtained through cooperative banks.
- Accordingly, crop loans of up to ₹50,000 obtained from cooperative banks by marginal farmers are being waived 100 percent (in full). Similarly, for small farmers, 50 percent of the loan amount up to a maximum of ₹50,000 is set to be waived.
- For marginal farmers who have borrowed more than ₹50,000, waiver benefits have been announced on a sliding scale based on the loan amount, up to a maximum of ₹40,000; for small farmers, these benefits extend up to a maximum of ₹20,000.
- Furthermore, for both marginal and small farmers who have borrowed over ₹100,000, a crop loan waiver of up to ₹5,000 will be granted to each individual. Through this historic crop loan waiver scheme, a total of 1,422,555 farmers across Tamil Nadu will benefit directly.
- It is noteworthy that the full implementation of this scheme will entail an additional expenditure of ₹2,044.46 crore for the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- At the National Federation Cup Athletics Championships held in Ranchi, Gurindervir Singh from Punjab set a new national record in the men's 100-meter sprint event.
- By reaching the finish line in 10.09 seconds and winning the gold medal, he emerged as India's fastest man. He also earned the distinction of being the first Indian to achieve this feat in under 10.10 seconds
