India's Gross Domestic Product in the Second Quarter of the 2025-26 Financial Year
- In the second quarter of the 2025-26 financial year, India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 8.2 percent. This rate is higher than the 7.8 percent recorded in the first quarter and the 7.4 percent in the fourth quarter of the 2024-25 financial year.
- In November 2025, the country's unemployment rate decreased to 4.7 percent from 5.2 percent in October 2025. This is the lowest rate since April 2025 (5.1%). The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate gradually decreased from 4.26 percent in January 2025 to 0.71 percent in November 2025.
- Merchandise exports expanded to US$38.13 billion in November 2025, compared to US$36.43 billion in January 2025. With a GDP of US$4.18 trillion, India has surpassed Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy.
- Furthermore, with an estimated GDP of US$7.3 trillion in 2030, it is poised to overtake Germany and move into third place in the next 2.5 to 3 years. This pace of growth has led India's GDP in the second quarter of the 2025-26 financial year to reach a new high not seen in the last six quarters.
- The inflation rate remains low, the unemployment rate is decreasing, and export performance continues to improve. Furthermore, financial transactions continue to be favorable with strong credit support for the trade sector.
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and its laboratories in Pune, Odisha, are jointly manufacturing the indigenously developed 'Pinaka' rockets. Missiles with ranges of 40 km and 75 km are already in use. Now, to enhance the military's offensive capabilities, a new long-range 'Pinaka' missile with a range of up to 120 km has been designed.
- No new vehicles are required to launch this new missile; it can be operated using the launchers already in use. This missile was tested for the first time yesterday (29th) at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha.
- During the test, the rocket successfully hit and destroyed the target at the predetermined distance of 120 km with 'great precision', setting a new record. On the same day that this test was successful, initial approval was granted for the procurement of these missiles for the armed forces at a meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
