MoU signed in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin to invest Rs 3201 crore in Germany with Knorr Bremse, Nordex Group, ebm-papst
- Chief Minister Stalin, who is on a state visit to Germany and England with the aim of attracting industrial investments to Tamil Nadu, addressed the grand Tamil Dream Germany Tamils meeting held in Cologne, the country, on August 31.
- Following this, on September 01, MoUs were signed in the presence of the Chief Minister with Knorr Bremse. Nordex Group, ebm-papst in Düsseldorf to provide employment to about 6250 people with an investment of Rs 3201 crore.
- In addition, the Chief Minister held discussions with senior officials of the BMW Group regarding the company's expansion work in Tamil Nadu. Subsequently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Munich-based Knorr-Bremse Company, Germany, to set up a state-of-the-art facility for railway doors and braking systems in Kanchipuram and Chennai at an investment of Rs. 2,000 crore, providing employment to about 3,500 people.
- Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Hamburg-based Nordes Group, one of the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturers, to expand its existing plant in Thiruvallur district at an investment of Rs. 1,000 crore, providing employment to about 2,500 people. This expansion will help strengthen Tamil Nadu’s leadership in renewable energy generation and green industrialization.
- The MoU was signed by Luis Alberto Fernandes Romero, Chief Operating Officer, Nordes Group, and Dr. Saravanan Manickam, India President. This expansion is expected to meet the domestic and international needs of wind power generation.
- In addition, an agreement has been signed with ebm-papst, a leading company in the manufacture of electric motors and fans, headquartered in Malfingen, Germany.
- The company has signed a memorandum of understanding to expand its Global Competence Center (GCC) in Chennai, expand its production in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs. 201 crore over the next 05 years, and provide employment to about 250 people. The agreement was signed by the company's Managing Director Atul Tripathi.
- Furthermore, BMW Group, headquartered in Munich, Germany, has established an automotive original equipment manufacturing plant for vehicles in Chengalpattu district.
- It is noteworthy that the Chief Minister met with Thomas Becker, Global Head of Government Affairs, BMW Group, and Vinod Pandey, Director Government and External Affairs, BMW India, to discuss the company's future expansion opportunities in the automotive sector, especially in the electric vehicle segment, in Tamil Nadu.
Prime Minister attends 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin, China
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, attended the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held in Tianjin, China from August 31 to September 1, 2025.
- The summit held constructive discussions on the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, global governance reform, countering terrorism, peace and security, economic and financial cooperation and sustainable development.
- Addressing the summit, the Prime Minister outlined India’s approach to strengthening cooperation under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
- He said that India wants to see better action under the three pillars of security, connectivity and opportunities in this regard. Stressing the need for peace, security and stability as key elements for growth and prosperity, he urged member states to take firm and decisive action against terrorism.
- At the end of this summit, the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization adopted the Tianjin Declaration.
- The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in July 2017. Since then, the central government has been releasing the GST collection of the previous month on the 1st of every month. It has been 8 years since the GST came into force.
- This year, the GST collection has reached an unprecedented Rs. 2.37 lakh crore in April. In this situation, the Union Finance Ministry has stated that GST collection has reached Rs. 1.86 lakh crore in August.
- This is 6.5 percent more than the GST collection of Rs. 1.74 lakh crore in August last year. It is noteworthy that Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat are leading in GST revenue.
- The Supreme Court has ruled that qualifying examination is mandatory for teachers to continue in service and for promotion.
- A bench of Supreme Court Justices Dipankar Dutta and Augustine George stated in its order that teachers can continue in service if they have only 5 years to retire.
- Furthermore, teachers who have been serving for more than five years must qualify in the TET exam to continue working. It has also been stated that if teachers do not pass the TET exam, they can leave their jobs or take compulsory retirement with benefits.
- Can the TET exam be made mandatory in minority educational institutions? The Supreme Court has also recommended that it be examined whether doing so will affect the right to education of minority educational institutions.
- The Supreme Court issued this important order today in an appeal case filed by the Tamil Nadu government.
- The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is conducted annually by the central and state governments separately. Only those who pass it can join the teaching profession.
