PM Modi inaugurates world's highest railway bridge - Chenab Bridge
- The Prime Minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat train service between Katra in Jammu and Kashmir and Srinagar in Jammu, the first train service between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.
- Modi flagged off the train service in the presence of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
- The Central government has launched a website called UMEED for the registration, verification and monitoring of Waqf properties. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju launched it.
- According to the data shared by the states with the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, more than 8.7 lakh properties in the country have been registered as Waqf properties. More than 4.2 lakh properties have been lying dormant as Waqf properties for a long time without proper documents.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) provides short-term loans to various banks across the country. Other banks pay interest to the RBI on those loans.
- The interest rate that banks provide to the RBI is called repo. The RBI usually changes this repo rate from time to time depending on the economic situation of the country. That is, it changes it only depending on retail inflation.
- In this situation, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) held a meeting today regarding economic policy. Reserve Bank Governor Sanjay Malhotra has reduced the repo rate from 6 percent to 5.50 percent.
- While it is usually reduced by 0.25 percent, this time it has been reduced by 0.50 percent. With this, the RBI has reduced the repo rate by one percent between February and June.
