- A bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice P.R. Kawai, Justice Augustine George Masih and Justice Vinod Chandran has ruled that a minimum three years of legal training is required for joining the judiciary.
- According to this judgment, a minimum three-year period of legal training is required for appearing for the civil judge examination. However, this judgment is not applicable to the ongoing judicial recruitments that have commenced.
- Accordingly, since the High Courts have already started the process of appointing Junior Civil Judges, the minimum procedural requirement based on the judgment issued by the Supreme Court is not applicable to the current appointment.
- At the same time, the judges clarified that this judgment will be applicable from the next appointment process that will be started.
