Rural, Urban and Combined Consumer Price Index for April, 2025
  • The year-on-year inflation rate in April 2025 as per the All India Consumer Price Index (AICP) is 3.16%. Inflation has declined by 18 basis points in April 2025 as compared to March 2025. This is the lowest inflation rate since July 2019.
  • The food inflation rate in April 2025 as compared to April 2024 was 1.78%. The food inflation rate in April 2025 has declined by 91 basis points as compared to March 2025.
  • The significant decline in inflation and food inflation in April 2025 is mainly due to the decline in inflation in vegetables, pulses, commodities, fruits, meat, fish, cereals and preparations.
  • There was a significant decline in rural food inflation in April 2025. Rural food inflation was 1.85% in April 2025, down from 2.82% in March 2025. Urban inflation was 3.36% in April 2025, down from 3.43% in March 2025. Food inflation has declined from 2.48% in March 2025 to 1.64% in April 2025.
  • Housing inflation was 3.00% in April 2025, down from 3.03% in March 2025. Urban and rural education inflation was 4.13% in April 2025, down from 3.98% in March 2025. The rural and urban health inflation rate for April 2025 was 4.25%, compared to 4.26% in March 2025.
  • The rural and urban transport and communication inflation rate for April 2025 was 3.73%, compared to 3.36% in March 2025. The rural and urban fuel and electricity tariff inflation rate for April 2025 was 2.92%, compared to 1.42% in March 2025.
90-day trade war truce - US, China agree
  • In response to the US tariffs, China imposed additional imports on its products. Due to this, the trade war between the world's largest economic powers, the US and China, intensified.
  • In this context, the two countries have been holding talks in Geneva, Switzerland since last Saturday to ease tensions. As a result, both countries have now agreed to suspend additional tariffs for 90 days. 
  • It is worth recalling that even before the start of these talks, Trump announced that he would consider reducing the additional tariffs on Chinese goods, which are currently 145 percent, to 80 percent.
