Small amount of gold, bone-pointed tool found in Porpanaikottai excavation
- Excavation work is underway in Porpanaikottai, Pudukkottai district, under the leadership of Director Thangadurai, on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department. While the first phase of excavation has been completed, the second phase of excavation is underway since June 18 last year.
- While the excavation was stopped due to the northeast monsoon, excavation work is underway again at 7 places since Jan. 20. In one of them, a bone-pointed tool was found at a depth of 196 cm.
- The tool weighs 7.8 grams, is 7.4 cm. long, and 1 cm. in diameter. A small piece of gold has been found in a broken state in another hole. The excavation department has said that 1,743 artifacts, including glass beads, bangles, iron nails, wasp stones, and coral beads, have been found so far in the 2nd phase of the excavation.
- More than 3,300 ancient artifacts have been found in the 18 pits excavated so far in the 3rd phase of the excavation in Vijaya Karisalkulam near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar district. In this situation, two pits have been dug and excavation work is currently underway.
- During this excavation work, a polishing stone used to polish decorative items and level the floor in the house has been found.
- In a significant step towards advancing India’s decarbonisation efforts, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) and the Carbon Markets Association of India (CMAI) have signed a MoU in New Delhi.
- The landmark agreement was signed on the inaugural day of the Global and Indian Carbon Markets event on February 4. The event was attended by Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari.
