UNESCO Award for Kumbakonam Apadsakayeswarar Temple
- The Apadsakayeswarar Temple is located in Tukkachi village near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district. This temple, which is about 1,300 years old, is located on about 7 acres.
- History says that it was built during the time of Rajaraja Chola's ancestors. There is an inscription that the temple was renovated by Kulothungan Chola and Vikrama Chola. The temple has ancient art and beautiful statues.
- In this situation, the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Awards announced a special award for the temple for conducting the Kumbabhishekam without changing the ancient structure.
- It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Stalin has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Rs. 2,000 crore in the first phase for the reconstruction work of Cyclone Fenjal.
- The Union Home Ministry has approved the release of Rs. 944.80 crore as the Central Government's share to the State Disaster Relief Fund.
- It has also been reported that additional amount will be released from the National Disaster Relief Fund based on the report of the Central Committee. The Central Committee is going to personally inspect the damage caused by the cyclone.
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today. The Prime Minister also released a special postage stamp on the occasion.
- Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav is a three-day cultural festival. It is celebrated from December 6 to 8 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. It showcases the vast culture of Northeastern India.
