Omar Abdullah sworn in as Chief Minister of Kashmir
  • The first assembly elections have been held since the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir was revoked and it was converted into a union territory. National Conference won 42 seats and Congress won 6 seats. 
  • BJP won 29 seats, Mehbooba Mufti's PDP won 3 seats, Independents won 7 seats and Aam Aadmi Party, Marxist Communist Party and JPC won one seat each.
  • It was then that Omar Abdullah, the working president of the National Conference Party, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath of office to him.
  • Similarly, Surinder Chowdhury, a Hindu, took charge as Deputy Chief Minister. He is the first Hindu Deputy Chief Minister after the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Union Cabinet approves 3% increment for Central Government employees and pensioners
  • The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the plan to provide one additional installment of gratuity hike to central government employees and gratuity relief to pensioners.
  • Three percent (3%) increase over 50% of existing basic pay / pension. Effective from 01.07.2024. As per the already accepted practice, the price hike is compensated based on the recommendation of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
  • This hike will cost the central government Rs 9,448.35 crore per year. 49.18 lakh central government employees and 64.89 lakh pensioners will be benefited by this hike.
Union Cabinet approves construction of new rail and road bridge across river Ganga
  • Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi today approved a project of the Ministry of Railways worth around Rs 2,642 crore. 
  • The proposed scheme will ease traffic and decongest, providing much-needed infrastructural development in busy sections of Indian Railways. The project passes through Varanasi and Chandeli districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Union Cabinet approves minimum support price for 2025-26 Rabi market crops
  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the hike in the minimum support price for Rabi crops during the 2025-26 marketing season.
  • The government has raised the minimum support price for rabi crops for the 2025-26 marketing season to ensure farmers get a fair price for their produce. The minimum support price has been increased by Rs.300 per quintal for mustard and Rs.275 per quintal for masoor dal. 
  • The prices of dal, wheat, saffron and barley have increased by Rs.210, Rs.150, Rs.140 per quintal and barley by Rs.130. The minimum support price for wheat is Rs. 2425 is fixed. It is already Rs. It was 2275
