Athikadavu-Avinasi project was launched by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin
- Today (17.08.2024) Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated the Athikadavu - Avinasi project through video presentation. Athikadavu-Avinasi Project is a project started to fill 1,045 ponds and puddles in 3 districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode to raise the ground water level and for agricultural and drinking water needs.
- In 2016, many people went on a hunger strike in Avinasi insisting on the implementation of this project. Jayalalitha, who was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at that time, provided Rs. 3.27 crores was allocated and issued an ordinance following that.
- Even after that, when the project did not take off, a one-day hunger strike was held in Avinasi in 2017, demanding the implementation of the Athikadavu-Avinasi project.
- In 2018, following the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Rs. 250 crore has been allocated and the scheme has been expanded. Today Rs. 1,916.41 crores, the project has been completed.
- The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a notification regarding the formation of Parliamentary Committees. Accordingly, the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee is chaired by KC Venugopal of the Congress party.
- BJP's Jaiswal heads the Evaluation Committee and his colleague Baijayant Panda heads the Committee on Public Enterprises. The three important finance committees of Parliament are the Public Accounts Committee, the Committee on Public Enterprises and the Committee on Estimates. These monitor the government accounts and the work of public institutions.
- The tenure of these three committees is one year. Members of both Houses of Parliament will be members of the Committee. They are elected by both houses. Similarly, there are standing committees of the Union Cabinet and other departments that oversee the departments.
- Similarly, Committee on Other Backward Interests, Schedule and Scheduled Tribes Interests Committees have also been set up. BJP's Ganesh Singh heads the Other Backward Committee. BJP's Fakhan Singh Kulasthe heads the committee on SC and ST interests.
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi approved the expansion of the existing PCMC – Swargate metro line from Swargate to Khadraj tunnel of the Pune Metro Phase I project.
- This new extension is called Line-LP extension. It will cover an area of 5.46 km and will include three underground stations. It will connect major areas like Market Yard, Bibvewadi, Balaji Nagar, Katraj Suburban.
- The project aims to provide seamless transport connectivity in Pune and is slated to be completed by February - 2029. The proposed estimate for this project is Rs.2954.53 crore. The funding for this will be shared equally by the Central Government and the State Government of Maharashtra and will include contributions from bilateral agencies.
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi today approved the Thane Integrated Circle Metro Rail project in Maharashtra. The 29 km project will run on the periphery of the western part of Thane city with 22 stations.
- The Ullas River is on one side of this structure and Sanjay Gandhi National Park on the other side. This link will provide the city with a sustainable and efficient transport system to realize its economic potential and reduce traffic congestion on the roads.
- The project is also expected to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The proposed estimate for this project is Rs.12,200.10 crore. It includes equal share of Central Government and State Government of Maharashtra and partial funding by bilateral agencies.
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi today approved the third phase of Bengaluru Metro Rail project comprising two elevated lines of 44.65 km with 31 stations.
- When the third phase becomes operational, Bengaluru city will have 220.20 km of operational metro rail network.
- The total cost of the project is Rs 15,611 crore. The third phase of the Bengaluru Metro Rail project represents a significant step forward in the city's infrastructural development. Phase-III serves as a major expansion of the metro rail network in the city.
- In the third phase, around 44.65 km of new metro lines will be laid to connect the western part of Bengaluru city which was previously without water supply.
- Prime Minister Mr. A meeting of the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Narendra Modi approved the Airports Authority of India's proposal to set up a new civil area complex at Pitha in Patna, Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 1,413 crore.
- This infrastructure project represents a strategic move to address the expected capacity of Patna Airport. While the Airports Authority of India is already working on construction of a new terminal building at Patna airport, further expansion is hampered by limited land availability.
- The proposed new integrated terminal building at Pitta Airport is designed to handle 3000 peak hour passengers with an area of 66,000 square meters and serves 50 lakh passengers per annum. The scheme will be expanded to accommodate another 50 lakh passengers as and when required. The ultimate capacity will be one crore passengers per year.
