Closing ceremony of the International Year of Small Grains 2023
- The World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) organized the closing ceremony of the International Year of Small Grains (IYM)-2023 yesterday (29 March 2024) at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
- The event was held in both live and video formats. It was attended by prominent dignitaries from various parts of the world including Mrs. Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, Additional Secretary, Union Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
- A video highlighting the various activities and key events organized during the International Year of Small Grains 2023 in various countries was also screened during the event.
- Ms. Beth Bechtolin, Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, concluded by thanking everyone who contributed to the success of the International Year of Small Grains.
- A special exhibition was also organized with display and live cooking of value added cuisines from small grains from around the world.
- Following India's proposal, the United Nations General Assembly, at its 75th session in March 2021, with the support of more than 70 countries, declared 2023 as the International Year of Small Grains. Awareness about nutritional and health benefits of small grains is created throughout the year 2023.
- The National Power Training Institute (NPTI) and the Power Transfer Corporation (PTC) India have set up a center of excellence for research and development in the energy sector with a focus on promoting sustainable development goals. A memorandum of understanding has been signed for this.
- Through this, the benefits of the research and development efforts of the National Power Training Institute will be widely available to the power sector. Under this MoU, NPDI and PTC India will jointly conduct research, development and knowledge sharing through a center of excellence.
