1.1 lakh crore to buy more fighter jets for Air Force - Security Council approves
- The Central Defense Council has approved contracts worth Rs 1.1 lakh crore for the purchase of 97 Tejas aircraft and 156 Prashant helicopters for the Indian Army.
- It is noteworthy that both of these are locally developed. Tejas Mark 1-A fighter jets are to be procured for the Indian Air Force and helicopters for the Air Force and Army. Apart from this, the Council also approved other agreements. Their total value is estimated to be around Rs.2 lakh crore.
- This is the largest order received by a domestic manufacturer in the history of India. After negotiations, the Cabinet Committee on Defense will finalize the price. It may take at least 10 years for the planes and helicopters to be inducted into the Indian Air Force.
- The government has been making relentless efforts to restore peace in the Northeast. A new chapter has accordingly begun with the signing of a peace accord with the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) of Manipur.
- The agreement is a historic milestone in which Manipur's oldest militant group, the UNLF, has agreed to abandon its path of violence and join the national mainstream.
- Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi addressed the employment function today. He handed over appointment letters to around 51,000 new recruits through video.
- Those selected from across the country will join various ministries and departments including the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Higher Education, Department of School Education and Literacy, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Labor and Employment.
- The Prime Minister said that the government's campaign to provide jobs to the youth is going forward and mentioned that appointment letters for government jobs have been issued to more than 50,000 youth across the country today.
- He inaugurated the 40th Coast Guard Commandant's Conference on November 30, 2023 in New Delhi. Director Rakesh Paul briefed the Defense Minister on the current development plans, operational leadership readiness and future expansion plans of the Indian Coast Guard.
- The three-day conference aims to strengthen the country's coastal surveillance systems to address contemporary maritime challenges. It will be attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Defense and the Indian Coast Guard.
