A fighter jet landing on Vikrant is a historic feat
  • While our country is becoming self-sufficient in military logistics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the largest aircraft carrier INS Vikrant for our Navy in September last year. With this indigenously built ship, India has joined the list of countries producing aircraft carriers capable of carrying a weight of more than 40,000 tons.
  • Built at a total cost of Rs 23,000 crore, the INS Vikrant has state-of-the-art facilities to repel air and ship-based missile attacks. It can accommodate 30 warplanes and helicopters at the same time. While dedicating this aircraft carrier to the country, Prime Minister Modi had said, 'This is a floating city'.
  • The aircraft carrier INS Vikrant conducts grounding exercises of various fighter jets from time to time. In this line, our soldiers landed the Russian-made MiG-29K fighter jet and Tejas light fighter jets made for the Navy on board INS Vikrant last February.
  • Also, fighter jets have never been landed on a ship at night. In this situation, while the Vikrant ship was traveling in the Arabian Sea, the pilots landed the MiG 29K fighter jet for the first time at night.
