'3HP' Tuberculosis treatment program started in Tamil Nadu
- Tuberculosis is a disease that spreads from person to person through colds and coughs. Therefore, a treatment program called 3HP has been started in Tamil Nadu to give preventive medicine to family members who are in close contact with TB patients in their homes.
- It was launched by Medical Minister Ma Subramanian at the TB Eradication Summit held at a private hotel in Chennai.
- Although some of these tuberculosis do not show symptoms such as cold cough, the presence of disease-causing bacteria in the body has been confirmed through tests. Thus preventive medical treatment is now being provided across the state to the members of the TB patient's homes. One should take the medicine called 3HP once a week for three months.
- 1,08,344 lakh people were diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2019, 68,922 people in 2020, 82,680 people in 2021, and 91,592 people in 2022. Tuberculosis patients are cured after six months of treatment. 91,405 people have recovered in 2019, 57,391 people in 2020, 68,810 people in 2021 and 50,592 people in 2022.
- The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has started a 2-day think tank in Munnar, Kerala. The meeting was presided over by Union Minister of Ports and Shipping Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal. Minister of State for the Department Mr. Sripath Naik, Mr. Shantanu Thakur, Department Secretary Mr. Sudansh Pant and many senior officials including heads of all major ports, heads of other institutions/public sectors of the Ministry were present on the occasion.
- On the first day of the brainstorming session, the goals and achievements set in the previous meetings were discussed. Chaired by Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal, a special session with chief executives of major ports focused on innovative ideas for ports.
- The other session focused on making India a global leader in lighthouse tourism and shipbuilding. Apart from this, participants from various organizations shared their subtle suggestions.
- The second day meeting focused on cargo handling through major ports, improving digitalization and standardization of port call procedures, improving inland waterways and coastal shipping.
