3rd International Conference on Fair Electoral Procedure
  • A fair election conference was held to share its knowledge, technical expertise and experience with other democracies of the world.
  • 59 delegates from 31 countries/Election Management Organizations including Angola, Armenia, Australia, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Dominica, Georgia, Guyana, Kenya, Korea, Mauritius, Moldova, Norway, Philippines, Portugal are participating in this conference.
  • Prior to this, in January this year, the Election Commission of India held its 2nd Conference on 'Use of Technology and Fair Electoral Procedure' in Delhi. More than 40 delegates from 16 countries participated in this.
  • As the 2nd Summit for Democracy is going to be held on March 29-30, it is noteworthy that the Election Commission held this international conference as a preview.
A rare event in Chinese history is the election of Xi Jinping as President for the 3rd term
  • Xi Jinping took office for the first time in 2012 as the president of China, which has the world's 2nd largest economy and the strongest military.
  • Although initially a largely unknown leader, Xi Jinping, the son of former President Xi Jinping, who was sentenced to prison by Chinese Party founder Ma Zedong, began to make strides after taking over as head of the Chinese Communist Party in 2012. In China, the president is the leader of the Communist Party.
  • According to the Chinese Constitution, no leader can serve more than 2 terms as president. This constitution was amended by Xi Jinping in 2018. With this, he was elected as the leader of the party for the 3rd time last year in Aktor. Following this, the National People's Congress was held in the Chinese Parliament.
  • All 2,952 members of parliament approved the appointment of Xi Jinping as the head of the Communist Party and the head of the military. With this, Xi Jinping has been appointed as the 3rd President for the first time in Chinese history after Ma Tse Tung.
10% Reservation for Agniveerar in Border Security Force: Union Govt Notification
  • Last year, the government brought the Agniveerar scheme to provide opportunities to the youth in the Army, Navy and Air Force. They can serve for 4 years.
  • The Union Home Ministry announced yesterday that 10 per cent reservation will be given to retired firemen in the Border Security Force along with relaxations in the upper age limit. 5 years relaxation for first bats agniveers and next 3 years relaxation has been announced.
Iran-Saudi Arabia agree to renew diplomatic ties
  • Rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia have agreed to restore diplomatic ties. It is expected that the agreement established at the initiative of China will end the tension between the two countries that has existed for the past 7 years. 
  • Also, it is said that the risk between the two countries, either directly or indirectly through other countries, has decreased. It has been decided to re-establish diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Subsequently, both countries set up their ambassadors alternately. It is said that these activities will be completed in a maximum of two months.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the 3rd session of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 3rd session of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi today. The main theme of this 3rd event is “Building Local Expansion in a Changing Climate”.
  • During the event, the Prime Minister felicitated the recipients of the Subhash Chandra Bose Management Award. 2023- Puraskar Award Winners: Odisha State Disaster Management Authority and Mizoram's Lungili Fire Station.
  • The Prime Minister also inaugurated an exhibition on innovative ideas, initiatives, tools and technologies in the field of disaster risk reduction. Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah and Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr. Nithyanand Rai also attended the event. 
  • A National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction called NPTRR has been developed by the Central Government. It also conducts project-based research to discuss, share experiences and advise on disaster recovery.
The Prime Minister was addressing a post-Budget webinar on “Economic Empowerment of Women”
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed a post-budget e-seminar on "Economic Empowerment of Women". This is the 11th in the series of post-budget e-seminar organized by the government to get ideas and suggestions for effective implementation of initiatives announced in Union Budget 2023.
  • The Prime Minister expressed happiness that this year's budget is seen as a good start towards achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047. “The budget has been planned and tested with a view to future prosperity. It is a good sign for the country that the citizens of the country also see the next 25 years associating themselves with such goals,” he said.
India, US sign MoU to establish semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership
  • India and the United States today signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership under the Indo-US Trade Dialogue Action Plan after the conclusion of the 2023 Trade Dialogue in New Delhi.
  • US Commerce Minister Keena Raimondo has arrived in New Delhi on the invitation of Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. Ahead of his visit, the India-US trade talks were held today to discuss cooperation to attract new trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
  • The main objective of this MoU is to create a coordinated mechanism between the governments of both countries on semiconductor supply chain resilience and diversity based on India's semiconductor initiative and the US's Chips and Science Act. The agreement will focus on mutually beneficial research and development, talent and capacity building.
Introduction of dedicated platform to ensure power reserve
  • The central government has introduced a dedicated platform (PUShP- High Price Day Ahead Market and Surplus Power Portal) to ensure its stock during the period of increasing electricity demand. 
  • Union Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy, Mr. RK Singh inaugurated the platform yesterday through video presentation in the presence of 200 stakeholders from state governments and power sector. 
  • Union Minister of State for Energy and Heavy Industries Mr. Krishan Pal Gurjar, Secretary, Ministry of Energy Mr. Alok Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
