10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections - Supreme Court verdict
- India has 27% reservation for Backward Classes (OBC), 15% for Scheduled Castes (SC) and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (ST) in education and employment. In this case, the central government passed the 103rd constitutional amendment in 2019, which provides 10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections.
- More than 100 petitions were filed in the Supreme Court against this. These petitions were heard as a single case. In 2020, a 3-judge bench headed by the then Chief Justice S.A. Bapde heard the case. Later, the case was transferred to a 5-judge constitution bench on August 5 of the same year.
- According to this, the constitution bench comprising the present Chief Justice U.U. Lalit, Justices Ravindrapat, Dinesh Maheshwari, Bela M. Trivedi and JP Pardiwala heard the case.

- A five-judge bench comprising Justices Dinesh Maheshwari, Bela M. Trivedi and JP Parthi Vala ruled that the amendment would go to the 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections.
- However, Chief Justice U.U. Lalit and Justice Ravindra Bhat gave a different verdict. They declared that the 103rd Amendment of the Constitution was invalid. However, in the end Chief Justice U.U. Lalit said, "According to the judgment given by the majority of judges, the 10 percent reservation will go to the economically weaker sections."

- Every employee who was a member of the Employees' Provident Fund Scheme, 1952 on 16th November 1995 prior to the introduction of amendments in 2014 is eligible for employee pension where members earning a salary exceeding a maximum limit of Rs 6500 can choose to contribute up to 8.33% of their salary to the pension fund along with their employers.
- The EPS 2014 amendments increased the salary threshold from 6500 to 15,000 in September 2014 and it was stated that only employees who were members of EPS can continue to contribute to their respective pension fund and they were given a period of 6 months to opt for the new pension scheme.
- Employees above Rs 15,000 will have to contribute an additional 1.16% of their monthly salary to the pension scheme every month. It also imposed the conditions. The court has now banned that condition.
- A three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said that the additional contribution under the amendment scheme is against the provisions of the Employees' Provident Fund and Other Provisions Act, 1952. Also, the bench headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court issued an order banning this additional contribution for six months.

- The roundtable meeting launched early warnings for all administrative action plans. India fully supports the Secretary General's plan to achieve universal precautions. It helps in mitigating the impacts, ensuring preparedness and taking quick and timely action during natural calamities.

Around the world, it can cause considerable damage. The world urgently needs a plan to deal with natural disasters,” said Minister Mr. Yadav.
Revenue deficit subsidy of Rs. 7,183.42 crore was released to 14 states
- Department of Expenditure under the Union Ministry of Finance as revenue deficit subsidy of Rs. 7,183.42 crore was released to 14 states today. As per the recommendation of the 15th Finance Committee, this subsidy has been released.
- In the current financial year, 14 states have received Rs. 86,201 crore has been recommended by the 15th Finance Commission. The Department of Expenditure has recommended disbursement of this in 12 monthly installments.
- Rs.57,467.33 crore has been released so far in the current financial year with the 8th installment in November 2022.
- The states of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand and West Bengal have been given this subsidy.
