Punishment for countries that support terrorism - Prime Minister Narendra Modi insists at Delhi conference

  • The 3rd Ministerial Conference on Countering Terrorism Financing started in Delhi. The conference is being held on the theme of No Funding for Terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural function of the 2-day conference yesterday.
India's first ever private rocket launched successfully
  • For the first time in India, the rocket 'Vikram-S' manufactured by Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace has announced that it will be launched into space on November 18. This work is named 'Prarump'.

  • A special web page (https://www.tamildigitallibrary.in/voc) has been created on the e-library website of the Tamil Digital Education Corporation to include these. This website was launched by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin for the use of general public and researchers.
Old Pension Scheme - Approved in Punjab
  • The Aam Aadmi Party is ruling Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. In the assembly elections a few months ago, the party had promised to reinstate the old pension scheme if it came to power.
  • In this case, the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann approved the implementation of the old pension scheme. It also approved payment of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of 624 people who lost their lives in the protests against the Agrarian Act.
  • Under the old scheme a government servant is entitled to monthly pension after retirement. Under the new scheme employees contribute a portion of their salary to the pension fund.
  • Accordingly they are considered entitled to a lump sum upon retirement. Already, the states of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand have implemented the old pension scheme. The old pension scheme was discontinued in 2004.
Climate Convention Funding for Developing Countries - European Union Endorsement
  • In order to compensate the losses caused by climate change to the developing countries, the UN is taking place in Egypt to provide financial assistance to those countries. The European Union has agreed to a climate convention.
  • After serious talks on this matter, the Vice President of the European Commission, which takes care of the political and financial affairs of the European Union, Frans Timmarmans, has been insisting that the developed countries should provide financial support to them in order to compensate them for the losses they may incur due to natural disasters caused by climate change.
  • So far we have been reluctant to create such a fund. There is already a financial framework for providing relief in such natural calamities.
Asian Airgan Championship 2022

  • Another Indian pair of Siva Nawal/Yuvika Thom in the same category lost the bronze medal round to the South Korean duo by 6-16. 
India has won an award for outstanding leadership in implementation of family planning at the International Conference on Family Planning
  • India won the Family Planning Award in recognition of its significant progress and recognition of India's efforts to implement modern family planning methods.
  • The Award for Outstanding Leadership in Family Planning Implementation 2022 was presented to India at the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) held in Pattaya, Thailand.
  • It is noteworthy that India is the only country to have received this award in the country category. The proportion of married women practicing family planning in the country was 66 per cent in 2015-16. It increased to 76 percent in 2019-21.
  • With the global target of 75 percent by 2030, India has already achieved that target. A pioneering program called Parivar Vikas has created awareness and led to improvements in family planning.
  • More than 3,500 delegates from more than 120 countries participated in the ICFP International Conference on Family Planning in person and more than 10,000 participated via video.
