Introduction of high speed RRTS train sets

  • As one of the efforts to modernize the railways, high speed RRDS train sets are to be introduced. The train is scheduled to run from Delhi to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh in the first phase.
  • It can go up to a maximum speed of 180 km per hour. The train is scheduled to run at an average speed of 160 kmph at a speed of 100 kmph. That is 3 times faster than the metro train.
  • These train compartments feature a wide range of features such as Wi-Fi, spacious parking, cushioned seats, CCTV camera, laptop, mobile charging facility and route maps.
  • These trains are manufactured at the Alstom plant in Savli, Gujarat. The first box is currently being manufactured and delivered to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation.
  • These train sets will be brought to Ghaziabad Railway Depot via containers. These train sets are manufactured entirely locally under the Mac in India program.
Appointment of 2 new judges in the Supreme Court
  • The maximum number of judges allowed in the Supreme Court is 34. Of which 2 judges posts were vacant. The names of Assam Guwahati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Tulia and Gujarat High Court Judge Bardiwala were recommended by the collegium headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ramana two days ago.
  • Following the UN Government's acceptance of the collegium's recommendation, Sudanshu Tulia and Bardiwala were appointed as Supreme Court Justices. The Union Ministry of Justice has issued a statement in this regard.
  • Following this, the number of Supreme Court judges allowed has reached 34. The newly appointed judges are expected to take office next week.

The Union Home Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Solar Power Generation Corporation of India to realize India's green energy initiatives.
  • The Home Ministry, under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has taken steps to install solar power plants at the Federal Reserve Police Force (CAPFs) and National Security Forces (NSG) premises to promote carbon offsets and move towards a carbon-balanced economy by promoting the federal government's renewable energy projects.   • Accordingly, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Solar Power Generation Corporation of India (SECI) in New Delhi in the presence of the Secretaries of the Union Home and New and Renewable Energy Departments.
  • The agreement sets out a joint venture between the two sides to set up rooftop solar power plants.
  • According to current data, the Central Reserve Police Force & National Security Forces complex is expected to generate a total of 71.68 MW of solar power, according to the Solar Power Generation Corporation of India.
