10.5% internal reservation for Vanniyar is invalid - Supreme Court upholds Chennai High Court judgment

  • The apex court upheld the Chennai High Court's ruling that the 10.5 per cent internal reservation for the Vanniyar was invalid and dismissed the appeals filed by the Tamil Nadu government.
  • Of the 69 per cent reservation in force in Tamil Nadu, 20 per cent is reserved for the most backward class (MBC). 
  • In this context, the then AIADMK government introduced the law in February before last year's assembly elections, providing 10.5 per cent internal reservation in education and employment for the Vanniyar community in the MBC section.
100 day work plan allocation of Rs.949 crore
