CCI approves Dutch acquisition of shares in Future General India Life Insurance Company

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of shares of Future General India Life Insurance Company (FGLIC) by the Netherlands NV General Company (GPN). As a result, GPN's stake in FGLIC will grow from 49% to approximately 71%.
  • The acquisition will increase GPN's stake in FGLIC. A detailed CCI order in this regard is yet to be issued.
Purchase of 606.19 lakh MT of paddy during the Caribbean season (up to 23.01.2022)
  • Paddy procurement is going smoothly at the minimum support price during the 2021-22 Caribbean market season.
  • During the 2021-22 Caribbean season, up to 23.01.2022, 606.19 lakh MT of paddy has been procured. Gujarat, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Tripura, Bagar, Orissa, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh / Madhya Pradesh Paddy has been procured from the areas.
  • So far, 77.00 lakh farmers have benefited from the purchase of paddy worth Rs. 1,18,812.56 crore at the minimum support price. As on 23.01.2022, 7,43,077 MT of paddy has been procured from Tamil Nadu. 1,20,231 farmers have benefited.
The second volume of the Vision Document for Electronic Production is published by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology
  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology today in association with the Cellular and Electronics Association of India released the 5 Year Plan Map and Goals Document for the Electronics Sector titled "Sustainable Electronic Production and Export of $ 300 Billion by 2026".
  • This is the second volume of the two-part vision document. The first volume was published in November 2021 entitled "Increasing India's Electronic Exports and the Role of International Value Chains".
Government approves appointment of Chris Walker to coach Indian squash players at Asian Games
  • The Central Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has approved the appointment of two-time world squash champion Chris Walker as the overseas coach of the Indian team for the Asian Games later this year.
  • Walker, who has represented England in squash and cycling, will coach the Indian team for 16 weeks. The appointment of former England captain Walker was recommended by the selection committee of the Sports Authority of India and officials of the Squash Rocket Federation.
Online seminar on 'Girl Child Protection' - Conducted by the National Commission for Women
  • The National Commission for Women had organized an online seminar on ‘Girl Child Protection’ today on National Girl Child Day to promote the rights of girls and raise awareness on various issues related to girls including their education, health and nutrition.
  • The Chairperson of this Commission is Mrs. Rekha Sharma, former Haryana Minister OP Thangkar and Pragya Watts, leader of the Let's Protect Children movement, addressed the seminar.
  • The National Commission for Women, which operates with the support of the Federal Ministry of Women and Child Development, is committed to eliminating discrimination against girls.
  • National Girl Child Day has been celebrated on January 24 every year since 2008 by this Ministry.
