Draft Notaries (Amendment) Bill issued to welcome suggestions
  • The Notaries Act, 1952 was enacted by Parliament to regulate the profession of legal certification officers known as notaries. The rules made under it empower the Central and State Governments to appoint notaries with the prescribed qualifications.
  • It is felt that the opportunity should be given to young qualified law practitioners who want to work as a notary public. This will help them to build their business better. With this in mind, it is proposed to limit the total period of notaries to fifteen years (initial five years and two renewals five years each) by reducing the number of unlimited renewals.
  • This will give opportunity to the youth, which will lead to better development and regulation of the notary work and facilitate the needs of the industry. The Notaries (Amendment) Bill was enacted to amend the Notaries Act, 1952 to achieve the above objectives, to prevent misconduct and fraud and to digitize the business.
