UN Convention on Climate Change India opposes draft resolution

  • UN India is a non-permanent member of the Security Council. In this context, the UN Security Council adopted a draft resolution on climate change.
  • The resolution was supported by 12 countries. India and Russia voted against. China did not participate in the referendum. The resolution was overturned because Russia, a permanent member state, used its veto power.
  • The United States, China and the developed West play a major role in global warming. These countries need to allocate more funds to prevent climate change. Countries, including India, have been urging developing countries not to impose restrictions on backward countries.
Jio tops in 4G download speeds
