International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021 Event

  • The United Nations has declared 2021 as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables. On this occasion, the Union Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar participated in the "International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021" event organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in association with the United Nations Organization for Agriculture.
  • The theme of this year is to raise awareness about the nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables for a healthy diet and lifestyle. The purpose of the seminar is to raise awareness about the important role of fruits and vegetables in human nutrition, health and food security, and to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • India is the 2nd largest producer of horticultural crops. India accounts for 12% of global fruit and vegetable production. 2019-20 We have produced a record 320.77 million metric tons of vegetables and fruits. Production of vegetables and fruits in 2020-21 is estimated at 329.86 million metric tons.
15th India-Israel Joint Working Group Meeting in Tel Aviv
  • The India-Israel Joint Working Group on Bilateral Security Cooperation (JWG) has agreed to form a working group to develop a comprehensive ten-year map to identify new areas of cooperation.
  • This was decided at the 15th JWG Meeting on October 27, 2021 in Tel Aviv, Israel. The meeting was chaired by Secretary of Defense Dr. Ajay Kumar and Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense Major General (Retired) Amir Eshl.
  • The JWG is the apex body between the Ministry of Defense of India and the Ministry of Defense of Israel for a detailed review and guidance on all aspects of bilateral security cooperation.
DRDO & IAF have successfully tested long range bombs
  • The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) team successfully tested a home-made long-range long-range bomb (LRP) on 29 October 2021.
  • After being released from an IAF fighter jet, the LR bomb is guided to a long-range land-based target with precision within certain limits. All mission objectives were successfully accomplished.
  • The aircraft's and performance of the bomb were monitored by a range of sensors, including the Electro Optical Tracking System (EOTS), telemetry and radar. The LR bomb was designed and developed by Research Center Imarat (RCI), a DRDO laboratory in Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories.
Indian Navy warship Tush launches in Russia
  • The Seventh Indian Naval Warship B-1135.6 was launched in the presence of the Indian Ambassador to Russia (Moscow) Mr. de Bala Venkatesh Verma and the Russian Federation and Indian Navy officials at the Yantar Shipyard at Kaliningrad, Russia.
  • Mrs. Datla Vidya Verma named the ship Dushil. Dushil means protective shield in Sanskrit. The agreement to build two ships was signed on October 18 between India and Russia on the basis of an agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Russian Federation to build two ships at Goa Shipyard Limited and two 1135.6 ships in Russia.
Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the 14th Urban Movement Conference in 2021
  • Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep S. Puri today launched the 14th edition of the 2021 Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference here.
  • The main theme of this year's conference is "Mobile for All", which focuses on providing equal access and promoting urban transport. It aims to provide affordable, clean, safe, informative, efficient and accessible transportation systems. All sections of the community, especially the disabled, the elderly, women and children.
38th Executive Committee Meeting of the National Movement for a Clean Ganga
  • The 38th Executive Committee Meeting of the National Movement for a Clean Ganga was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Misra, Director General. The meeting also approved some important projects in West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Bihar.
  • The detailed project report for the works including the sewage treatment plant in North Barakpur Municipality in West Bengal was evaluated and approved during the meeting. As of now, there is no centralized sewerage system in the city, so the sewage flows into the Ganges. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 215 crore.
  • The meeting also approved projects including three new sewage treatment plants at Tehri-on-Son in Bihar. One of these is located near the Shiva Temple, the other in Dalmia and the other near Islam Ganj. The total cost of the project is Rs 63.89 crore.
Last installment of Rs 44,000 crore GST compensation to states
  • The central government has released Rs 44,000 crore for the fiscal year 2021-22 as a loss to the states due to the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
  • It was decided by the Reserve Bank to raise this loan on behalf of the Central Government. Debt accumulation was integrated for all states. The interest on this loan and the principal amount have been agreed to be paid to the GST Compensation Tax Fund.
Official Meeting of the Prime Ministers of India and Italy
  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Italy for the G20 summit in Rome on Friday (October 29), met Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi for the first time. Prime Minister Modi, who paid floral tributes to the statue of Piazza Gandhi in Rome, was warmly welcomed by expatriate Indians who raised Sanskrit slogans.
Introduction of submarine research vessel 'Samudrayan' for deep sea research
  • NIOD, a national maritime technology company, has designed a submarine that goes deep into the ocean with humans at depths of up to 6,000 meters. It has been named as 'Samudrayan'.
  • The vessel can be used to explore non-biological mineral resources in the deep sea, up to a depth of 5,500 meters. This will be helpful to the Central Department of Earth Sciences. At the end of next year, the submarine is scheduled to conduct submarine research drills in shallow areas up to 500 meters.
  • Preliminary work on the design of another manned submarine, the Fish-6,000, has been completed. The vessel will be ready for rehearsal in 2024.
Appointment of Chairmen to the National Company Law 2 Tribunals
  • The government has approved the appointment of former Supreme Court Judge Ashok Bhushan to the National Company Law Appeals Tribunal (NCLAT) and former Meghalaya High Court Judge Ramalingam Sudhakar to chair the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
Three-year extension of the tenure of OBI Governor Shaktikant Das
  • Shaktikanta Das was appointed as the 25th Governor of OBI in 2018 following the resignation of Ujit Patel, the former Governor of OBI. Appointed for a term of 3 years, his term was due to end on December 10th. 
  • In this context, the Committee on Appointments headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his tenure for another three years. This has paved the way for Shaktikant Das to take over the leadership of the ABI until December 2024.
Discovery of a 2,500-year-old rock painting by Valari Veeran near Andipatti
  • Munandipatti village is located near Pullimankombai in Andipatti taluka, Theni district. Pavel Bharathi, founder of the Vaigai Archaeological Museum, surveyed the area a few days ago. Then he discovered a rock painting of a warrior wearing a Tamil ancient weapon, 2,500 thousand years ago.
  • Rock paintings of various places including Tamil Nadu have so far depicted warriors carrying bows, arrows, swords, saws and sticks. Valari did not appear to have found the weapon. This is the rock painting that is clearly known as Valari.
  • Valari is the oldest weapon in use in southern Tamil Nadu and among the Australian tribes. This is called a boomerang in Australia. In Tamil Nadu, up to 1,801 Valari weapons were in use in Theni, Madurai, Dindigul, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram areas.
  • There is a record in the English East India Company documents that the Nawabs and the British were attacked by the soldiers of the area. The use of the Valari weapon has been banned by the British since 1802.
