183 crore Union Government allocation for revenue deficit subsidy to Tamil Nadu
- The Expenditure Department of the Union Ministry of Finance has announced a revenue shortfall of Rs 9,871 crore for 17 states, including Tamil Nadu, for the year 2021-22. Of this, Rs 183.67 crore has been given to Tamil Nadu alone.
- It also mentioned that a total of Rs 69,097 crore has been disbursed to the revenue deficit subsidy so far this fiscal. These grants are provided in monthly installments as recommended by the Finance Commission to bridge the gap in the revenue accounts of the states.
- The 15th Finance Commission had earlier recommended 17 states to provide post-partition revenue shortfall subsidies. This includes Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Manipur. It has been mentioned that a total of Rs. 1,285.67 crore has been disbursed to Tamil Nadu so far along with the present amount of Rs. 183.67 crore.
- India has agreed to provide a loan guarantee of Rs 1,500 crore for Bishkek-Kyrgyzstan development projects. Foreign Minister Jaishankar is on a four-day state visit to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Armenia in Central Asia.
