450 crore medical equipment manufacturing park in Oragadam, Kanchipuram district
- Industrial parks and specialized parks for specific industries are being set up in various districts of Tamil Nadu by Chipkot. Accordingly, in the financial statement of Tamil Nadu for this financial year, it was announced that a medical device manufacturing park will be set up by Chipkot in Oragadam, Kanchipuram district.
- A proposal was sent on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu to the Department of Pharmacy of the Central Government for financial assistance to set up infrastructure facilities in the park.
- Accepting this request of the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Central Government has now given in-principle approval to set up four medical device manufacturing parks at the national level.
- Following Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, a medical device manufacturing park will be set up in Oragadam, Kanchipuram district in Tamil Nadu.
- The central government will provide a maximum of Rs 100 crore to set up infrastructure here. Oragadam will be a 350-acre park at Chipkot Industrial Park with a project value of about Rs 450 crore, including infrastructure, laboratories, a pilot model center, a skills development center, etc., under one umbrella.
- The Supreme Court has ordered the setting up of the Cauvery River Management Authority to resolve the river water dispute between the four states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry. Following this, the Central Government set up the Cauvery River Water Management Authority on June 1, 2018.
