Public Service Commission Examination: Group 2 and 2a - Selection Procedure:
The group 2 examinations of the TNPSC are conducted for the recruitment to
various posts across several services in the state of Tamil Nadu. While the
written examinations are just the initial stage of selection, the overall
selection process involves several stages, depending on the type of post for
which the interview is being conducted. The TNPSC examination consists of two
kinds of selection procedures. First is for the Combined Subordinate Service
Examination I (Group 2) and the second is for the group 2A. The selection
process has been described below in short.

WRITTEN
EXAMINATION:
The written examination is the first stage of the selection process which is
also mandatory to be eligible for any post in the services. The salient
features of the written examination have been mentioned below.
·
It is totally objective type paper, having
two sections- General knowledge and General English or General Tamil as the
candidate may choose.
·
The candidates have the choice of opting
for either General English or General Tamil while the General Knowledge section
is mandatory for all candidates.
·
There are 100 questions in each section and
the prescribed time limit is a total of three hours while the total marks that
can be obtained is 340 (Both written and oral sections)
·
The standard of questions will be general
in the general knowledge part while it will be up to SSLC standard in the
General English or Tamil part.
·
In order to qualify for the next level, a
candidate must score 102 in oral and written combined or 90 marks in just the
written section in order to be considered for the next stage.
ORAL TEST
OR THE INTERVIEW
The oral test or the interview is taken for knowing the personality and the mentality of
the candidate which helps the interviewers to gauge the suitability of the
candidate for the relevant post. Candidates need to cross the first barrier,
the written test, in order to be considered for the interview. The maximum
marks in the interview are 40 and any candidate scoring well in this part can
score well in the overall terms.

SELECTION:
The final selection list is prepared after the written and oral tests have been
done for the candidates and it is done on the basis of the total marks obtained
by the candidates in both the tests. This, along with the position for which
the candidate has applied, is taken into consideration while making
appointments in various offices. All the rules of reservation and exemptions
are also applied in this stage and a final selection list is prepared for
selected candidates as well as some who have been kept in waiting. For the
interview posts, both written and oral exams are mandatory while for
non-interview posts, a proper verification of documents and certificates is
enough after the candidate has been selected.This is the overall process of
selection for the TNPSC group 2 and 2A.
