- The inaugural event for 'Tiger Triumph 2026'—a joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise involving the armed forces of India and the United States took place on November 2, 2026, at the Maritime Warfare Centre in Visakhapatnam.
- The exercise aims to enhance coordination, joint planning, and interoperability between the armed forces of both nations during large-scale humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations.
- The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy, and Rear Admiral Joaquin J. Martinez de Pinillos, Deputy Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
- This exercise reflects the close alignment of strategic maritime operations between India and the United States, as well as the growing defense partnership between the two countries.
- From the Indian side, the exercise involves personnel from the Indian Navy, units from the Indian Army, various components of the Indian Air Force, and special forces from all three branches of the armed forces. Additionally, for the first time, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is participating in 'Tiger Triumph 2026'.
- The VELC instrument aboard the Aditya-L1 spacecraft has discovered an asymmetrical expansion pattern in solar rays, which can influence space weather.
- Aditya-L1, India’s first solar observatory mission, has provided scientists with insights into how solar rays expand. The new data obtained is of significant importance for space weather research. This is because such solar events can potentially damage satellites and communication infrastructure.
- Launched in September 2023, the Aditya-L1 satellite is currently positioned at the L1 Lagrange point between the Sun and the Earth, where it continuously monitors the nature of solar emissions.
- It carries a total of seven scientific instruments. Among these, the primary instrument VELC (Visible Emission Line Coronagraph)—is designed to observe the Sun’s outer atmosphere, known as the 'corona,' using various methods simultaneously.
- A study published in *The Astrophysical Journal Letters* has revealed, for the first time, that solar emissions do not expand outward from the Sun as simple, symmetrical bubbles as was previously thought. Instead, they undergo irregular expansion, resulting in an asymmetrical shape.
- It is believed that these variations in the expansion of solar emissions can affect their speed as they travel toward Earth, potentially leading to asymmetries in space weather.
