Government Order Issued for New Secretariat Complex at Pattinapakkam
- On September 3, 2026, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay announced under Rule 110 of the Legislative Assembly that a new Secretariat complex, including a Legislative Assembly hall, would be constructed in Chennai at an estimated cost of approximately ₹1,200 crore.
- Following this announcement, a total of 25.55 acres of land owned by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, the Chennai Corporation, and the Revenue Department was identified at Pattinapakkam for the construction of the new complex.
- Consequently, the Tamil Nadu government has issued a Government Order granting in-principle approval to construct a new Legislative Assembly and Secretariat complex in Chennai, spanning 20 lakh square feet and equipped with all modern amenities.
- In the order, the government has directed the Public Works Department to submit a detailed project report, including cost estimates, within three months. Furthermore, three dedicated committees have been constituted to select an architectural consultancy firm and to finalize the preliminary and final architectural drawings and designs.
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved five projects proposed by the Ministry of Railways today, with a total outlay of ₹10,021 crore.
- These include three projects in Tamil Nadu: laying the 3rd and 4th railway lines between Arakkonam and Renigunta (77 km); doubling the line between Hosur and Omalur (147 km); and doubling the line between Salem, Karur, and Dindigul (159 km).
- Additionally, the projects include laying the 3rd and 4th railway lines between Whitefield and Bangarapet (47 km) and multi-tracking the line between Secunderabad (Ghatkesar) and Kazipet (110 km).
- The new railway lines will significantly improve transportation, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency and service reliability of the railway sector for passengers.
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved three projects proposed by the Ministry of Railways today. The total cost of these projects is ₹10,783 crore.
- This project includes the Kharagpur–Jharsuguda (Bagdehi) 4th line, the Katni–Pendra Road 4th line, and the Bilaspur (Uslapur) Pendra Road 3rd line.
- The railway line augmentation works will significantly boost passenger traffic and help enhance the operational efficiency and service reliability of the railway sector. These multi-tracking projects will lead to streamlined operations and reduced congestion.
