Defence Acquisition Council Approves Procurement Proposals Worth Rs 1.10 Lakh Crore for Armed Forces
  • At a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, 'Acceptance of Necessity' (in-principle approval) was granted for the procurement of various platforms and equipment worth approximately Rs. 1,10,000 crore for the three armed forces. About 98 percent of this total procurement is set to be sourced from domestic industries.
  • Approval has been granted to procure Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) reconnaissance vehicles, state-of-the-art vehicles for rugged terrain, mine-laying systems, Advanced Light Helicopters, and towed artillery guns for the Indian Army.
  • The reconnaissance vehicles possess the capability to detect and monitor affected areas. The modern vehicles and helicopters will facilitate the rapid execution of Army operations in challenging conditions and strengthen transport infrastructure.
  • Approval has been given for the indigenous design, development, and procurement of 'Arudra' radars and marine gas turbines for the Indian Navy. The Arudra radars will serve as replacements for existing surveillance radars. Indigenous gas turbine production will significantly reduce foreign dependency in the warship sector.
  • Approvals have also been granted for projects to enhance the combat capabilities of the Indian Air Force's fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters. A decision was also taken to procure ground-based multi-role jammers and secure access card systems for the armed forces.
  • These jammers are capable of neutralizing enemy radars. The secure access card system will be upgraded from conventional paper ID cards to state-of-the-art smart cards, further strengthening security protocols.
