23rd Commonwealth Games 2026 – Day 10
- The 23rd Commonwealth Games are currently underway in Glasgow, Scotland. On Day 10 (yesterday), India secured a haul of 16 medals, including 8 golds.
- In boxing, Preeti Pawar (women's 54kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (women's 57kg) won gold medals. In the women's 70kg category, Arundhati Choudhary defeated England's Chantelle Reid 5-0 to clinch the gold.
- Another athlete, Priya Gangas, secured another gold for India by defeating Canada's Mary Bathaul Al-Ahmadiya 4-1 in the women's 60kg final. In the women's 51kg category, 23-year-old Sakshi Choudhary defeated England's Ruby White 5-0 to claim the gold.
- In the men's 60kg boxing final, 26-year-old Sachin Siwach from Haryana faced Namibia's Tryagain Morning Endvelo.
- In a closely contested bout, Sachin Siwach won 3-2 to secure the gold. In the 80kg final, 20-year-old Ankush Panghal from Haryana faced England's Demeji Shittu. After a fierce contest, Ankush Panghal won by a 4-1 split decision from the judges to claim the gold.
- In addition to these, Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh, and Narender Berwal won bronze medals in boxing. Yesterday alone, India won 7 gold and 3 silver medals in boxing.
- India secured a double podium finish in the men's F57 discus throw event within the para-sports category; Soman Rana impressed by winning gold, while fellow Indian athlete Shubham Goyal won silver.
- In the triple jump, Praveen Chithravel from Tamil Nadu won a silver medal for India, and another athlete from the state, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran, won bronze. Furthermore, Gulveer Singh won bronze in the 5,000-meter race, completing the distance in 13 minutes and 24.95 seconds.
- It is noteworthy that Gulveer Singh also won silver in the 10,000-meter race. At the end of 10 days, India moved up to fourth place with a total of 39 medals—comprising 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze. Australia (153 medals), England (101 medals), and Canada (59 medals) hold the top three positions.
- An award ceremony organized by the Tilak Trust took place in Pune yesterday to mark the 106th death anniversary of freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. This award is presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the nation.
- Trust Chairman Rohit Tilak announced that Ajit Doval had been selected for the award this year in recognition of his contribution to strengthening national security. Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the award to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
- Ajit Doval, who has served as the National Security Advisor for a very long period, has played a pivotal role in shaping the country's security strategy. He has also played a key part in numerous operations, including Operation Sindhur and the Balakot airstrike.
