Appointment of Tamil Nadu Members to the Southern Zonal Council
- Under the States Reorganisation Act, separate councils were established for each region in the country. These councils operate under the chairmanship of the Union Home Minister. Accordingly, the Southern Zonal Council comprising Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Puducherry, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep functions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah as its Chairman.
- Following the change of government in Tamil Nadu, Ministers Nirmal Kumar (Law and Electricity) and Rajmohan (School Education) have been appointed as the state's representatives to the council. While the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu serves as the council's first advisor, Home Secretary Manivasan has been appointed as the second advisor.
- The high-level committee announced by Prime Minister Modi will recommend necessary changes to the government regarding the examination procedures of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Several key reforms are set to be implemented based on these recommendations.
- The committee comprises Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, former ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, former IB Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
- In the women's 48kg weight category, Mirabai Chanu delivered a stellar performance, achieving a historic milestone by winning her third consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
- In the men's 60kg category, 28-year-old Sanamchaam Rishikanta Singh secured India's first silver medal by lifting a total of 264kg.
- In the men's 65kg category, Raja Muthupandi from Tamil Nadu won the silver medal by lifting a total of 286kg (126kg in snatch and 160kg in clean & jerk). India currently holds the 8th position with a total of four medals: one gold, two silver, and one bronze.
