• GLOBAL PASSPORT INDEX 2026: When people think of passport rankings, they usually consider only how many countries one can visit without a visa. However, the Global Passport Index takes various other factors into account. 
• This ranking is compiled based on factors such as global travel freedom for passport holders, investment opportunities, quality of life, economic conditions, and amenities available to individuals.
• According to this year's list, India ranks 136th in travel freedom, 94th in investment opportunities, and 118th in quality of life. Overall, India holds the 125th position. This marks a drop of one place compared to the previous year. 
• However, it is also noted that India has improved by two places over the last five years, having ranked 127th in the 2021 global passport rankings.
• The report further highlights that Indian passport holders enjoy easy travel access to many countries worldwide. Indians can visit nations such as Nepal, Bhutan, Jamaica, Barbados, Tunisia, Angola, and Macau either visa-free or with a 'Visa on Arrival' facility. 
• Conversely, obtaining a visa in advance is mandatory for travel to major countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, and Australia. Meanwhile, countries such as Sweden, Switzerland, and Finland occupy the top three spots on this list.
