2,000-Year-Old Burial Urn Discovered Near Madurai
- A 2,000-year-old burial urn has been discovered near Madurai. Dating back to the pre-Sangam era approximately 2,000 years ago there was a custom in Tamil Nadu of burying the dead in clay urns.
- Practices included burying the entire body within the urn, collecting and burying the deceased's bones inside it, or burying only the personal belongings used by the deceased. These clay urns are typically black and red in color.
