Loyola Mani Appointed Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation

• This significant appointment has been announced amidst a series of leadership changes across various government department boards following the change of administration and the assumption of office by the TVK government in Tamil Nadu.
• At an event held at the Chennai Secretariat, Loyola Mani formally received the appointment order for the new role from Chief Minister Vijay, in the presence of Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Rajmohan.
• An official government order states that Loyola Mani, appointed as the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, will hold this position for the next three years.

Retail inflation rises to 4.38% in June

• Based on data from the central government, retail inflation rose to 4.38% in June, driven by an increase in food prices; it stood at 3.93% in May. Food inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index, stood at 5.32% in June, up from 4.78% in May.
• Meanwhile, the central government today directed the Reserve Bank of India to maintain headline inflation at the 4% level.

Jnanpith Award Conferred Upon Poet Vairamuthu

• The Jnanpith Award has been conferred upon Tamil film lyricist and poet Vairamuthu. Former Minister Karan Singh presented the award to Vairamuthu at the 60th Jnanpith Award ceremony held in Delhi.
• The award comprises a cash prize of ₹11 lakh, a citation, and a bronze statue of Vagdevi. Poet Vairamuthu has previously won the National Award for Best Lyricist seven times.
