MoU Signed Between Tamil Nadu and Central Governments for the Implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0
- An MoU for the extended implementation period of the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 scheme was signed today (June 2) in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay who participated via video conference from the Secretariat in Chennai and Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, who joined from New Delhi.
- With the signing of this MoU today for the extended implementation phase of the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 scheme, Tamil Nadu is set to receive an initial tranche of ₹2,177.27 crore from the funds allocated to the state by the Union Government's Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
- The extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme until the year 2028 reaffirms the continued commitment of both the Union Government and the Government of Tamil Nadu to ensuring a safe, adequate, and sustainable supply of drinking water to all households in rural areas.
- According to official statistics released by the Union Ministry of Finance, Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose by 3.2 percent last May, surpassing the ₹1.94 lakh crore mark, as indicated by Central Government data.
- An increase in revenue generated through domestic transactions and imports is cited as the primary reason for this growth.
- In the month of May, CGST collections stood at ₹37,397 crore, SGST at ₹45,143 crore, and IGST at ₹51,990 crore. Notably, IGST revenue derived solely from imports witnessed a 19.1 percent increase, reaching ₹59,654 crore. After deducting refunded amounts, net GST revenue has risen to Rs 1.67 lakh crore.
