India's First Hydrogen-Powered Train Trial Run Successful
- Marking a new milestone in the history of Indian Railways, India's first indigenously manufactured "hydrogen-powered train" has successfully completed its final high-speed trial run.
- This historic final trial was conducted on the Jind-Sonipat railway route in Haryana. During the test, the train achieved a remarkable speed of 120 kmph.
- Designed at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, this 10-coach train is powered by a 1,200 kW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system.
- Operating on hydrogen technology that emits absolutely no smoke or pollutants, the train generates electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, releasing only water vapor as a byproduct.
- With this achievement, India joins an elite group of nations—including Germany, the USA, and Japan that operate hydrogen trains. This hydrogen train is set to revolutionize Indian Railways' goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
- The tenure of Tapan Deka, the current head of the central intelligence agency, concludes this month. Consequently, an appointments committee led by Prime Minister Modi has appointed Mahesh Dikshit as the new chief of the agency. He will serve in this position for a term of two years.
- A 1993-batch IPS officer, Mahesh Dikshit has spent a significant portion of his career in intelligence operations, notably serving as a Special Director. He played a pivotal role as the intelligence chief in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370.
- It is noteworthy that during Operation Sindhur, he served as the head of the intelligence wing and played a key role in destroying terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
