Central Government Constitutes High-Level Committee to Examine Demographic Changes
- Abnormal demographic changes—arising from infiltration and other factors pose a severe challenge to both the present and future of any nation. To address this challenge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced during his Independence Day address last year that a high-level committee would be constituted to examine demographic changes.
- Following this announcement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that a high-level committee headed by former Supreme Court Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar has been constituted to examine demographic changes.
- Operating under the leadership of retired Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar, this committee will comprise the Census Commissioner, along with retired IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra, retired IPS officer Balaji Srivastava, and Dr. Shamika Ravi as members. The Joint Secretary (Foreigners-I) of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs will serve as the Member Secretary of the committee.
- The committee will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the demographic changes occurring across the country due to illegal immigration and other abnormal factors.
- It will also analyze the trends of unusual demographic changes occurring at religious and social levels. Furthermore, it has been stated that "it will put forward a planned, time-bound solution for this."
Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar launched the 'PM-AJAY' portal and the 'AJAY' mobile application to facilitate the digitization and strengthening of the implementation of welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes
- With the objective of ensuring the rapid and high-quality implementation of the Pradhan Mantri-Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY) the Prime Minister's Scheme for the Upliftment of Scheduled Castes Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar launched the dedicated web portal and mobile application for the scheme.
- This scheme aims to transition to a completely digitized, paperless, and real-time-based workflow and implementation process.
- Aimed at the socio-economic development of Scheduled Castes, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is implementing various welfare schemes under this initiative.
- This application has been designed to enable access to scheme-related services via mobile devices, ensure planning and implementation down to the last mile at the village level, enhance field-level monitoring, facilitate real-time reporting, and strengthen transparency and digital governance.
