Netherlands Hands Over Chola-Era Copper Plates to India
  • In the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is currently on a five-nation official tour that includes a visit to the Netherlands the historically significant 'Anaimangalam Copper Plates' (also known as the Leiden Plates) of the 11th-century Chola era have been officially handed over to India, following years of diplomatic efforts.
  • This event is regarded as a major milestone in India's cultural restitution efforts aimed at retrieving artifacts that were removed during the colonial era.
  • These historical documents known in the Netherlands as the 'Leiden Plates' date back to the reign of the great Emperor Rajaraja Chola I, who ruled from 985 to 1014 AD. They are considered to be among the most significant symbols of Tamil heritage preserved outside India's borders.
