J.C.D. Prabhakaran Elected Uncontested as Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly
- A new government led by the TVK has assumed power in Tamil Nadu. The party's leader, Vijay, has taken charge as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The Legislative Assembly convened today under the chairmanship of Interim Speaker Karuppiah, who administered the oath of office to the newly elected MLAs.
- Against this backdrop, the elections for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are scheduled to take place tomorrow (May 12). J.C.D. Prabhakaran, the MLA representing the Thousand Lights constituency, filed his nomination papers today on behalf of the ruling TVK party to contest the election for the post of Speaker.
- He submitted his nomination papers at the office of the Assembly Secretary located within the Secretariat complex in Chennai. As the deadline for filing nominations expired this evening, no other candidates submitted their papers.
- Consequently, J.C.D. Prabhakaran stands elected unopposed. Ravi Shankar, the MLA representing the Thuraiyur constituency, is set to be elected as the Deputy Speaker.
