UN Forecast on Indian Economy to Grow by 6.4% This Year
- In a report released on Monday, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) stated that while economic growth in South and Southeast Asia stood at 5.2 percent in 2024, it is projected to rise to 5.4 percent in 2025.
- India's robust growth within the Asian continent is cited as a primary driver for this trend. Driven by factors such as strong consumer demand and reductions in Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, India's economic growth is projected to reach 7.4 percent in 2025.
- Following the imposition of a 50 percent tariff by the United States on Indian goods in August 2025, exports from India to the U.S. declined. Consequently, economic activity in India moderated during that period. Nevertheless, the services sector remained a key contributor to India's overall growth.
- It has been reported that India's economic growth is projected to stand at 6.4 percent this year and 6.6 percent next year. Furthermore, inflation (the rate of price rise) in India is forecast to be 4.4 percent this year and 4.3 percent next year.
