Sunetra Pawar sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra
- Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently passed away in a plane crash in Baramati. Following this, his wife and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), Sunetra Pawar, was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister to fill the vacant post.
- Sunetra Pawar has thus become the first woman to assume the office of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The 62-year-old Sunetra Pawar lost to Supriya Sule in the Baramati constituency in the last parliamentary elections.
- Following this, she became a Rajya Sabha MP. Now, she is becoming the Deputy Chief Minister. Sunetra played a role in transforming the Baramati region into a high-tech textile park. With Sunetra Pawar becoming the Deputy Chief Minister, her son Bharat will take over her Rajya Sabha MP position.
- From 26 sites in 2014, the number has now expanded to 98 sites, an increase of more than 276 percent. The Patna Bird Sanctuary in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh and the Chari-Dhand in Kutch district of Gujarat have been added to the list of Ramsar sites.
- These two wetlands provide habitat for hundreds of migratory and local bird species. Besides endangered birds, these areas also provide refuge to wildlife such as Chinkara, wolves, caracal, desert cats, and desert foxes.
- In 1971, at a conference on the conservation of wetlands held in Ramsar, Iran, various countries, including India, signed an agreement on this matter. India signed this agreement on February 1, 1982.
- Kazakhstani player Elena Rybakina won the Australian Open women's singles title. In the final, she defeated the world number one player, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, in sets of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to win her first Australian Open title and her second Grand Slam title overall.
