Special resolution passed in the Legislative Assembly regarding the 100-day employment scheme
- The 4th day of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session has begun and is underway. Opposition parties across the country are protesting against the Central Government's Developed India Rural Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Scheme (VP GRam Ji), which seeks to modify the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
- According to the new scheme, the 100 days of employment in a year will be increased to 125 days. However, the scheme, which was previously 100% funded by the Central Government, has been restructured to require state governments to contribute 40% of the funding.
- Following this, a special resolution on this matter was introduced and passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today.
- Chief Minister M.K. Stalin introduced a resolution in the Assembly demanding the re-inclusion of Mahatma Gandhi's name in the rural employment scheme and urging that the state government be allowed to formulate the procedures for the scheme. Following speeches by various members of the Legislative Assembly on the resolution, it was unanimously passed in the Assembly.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated in a government function held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on Friday morning, laid the foundation stone for several projects and inaugurated completed works.
- Following this, he also inaugurated the modern post office in Thiruvananthapuram. At this event, he flagged off three Amrit Bharat train services operating between Nagercoil - Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram - Tambaram, and Thiruvananthapuram - Sharlapalli, as well as a new passenger train service operating between Thrissur - Guruvayur.
- Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and central and state ministers participated in the event.
