- In order to further improve such important registry functions, the Tamil Nadu government is taking various steps such as constructing new office buildings for the Registrar's offices, establishing new Registrar's offices, and improving the infrastructure of the department.
- The great Tamil scholar Kalaignar launched the STAR computerization project in the 160-year-old registration department on 6.02.2000, becoming the first state in India to launch it in Tamil Nadu with a vision.
- Following this, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the first phase of the action plan on Thursday, which includes 18 new services under the STAR 3.0 software project of the registration department.
- Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone of a seawater desalination project with a production capacity of 60 million liters per day in Mullakkadu village at a function held on behalf of the Department of Industry, Investment Promotion and Commerce at the Secretariat on Thursday (January 22), considering the water requirement of the industries located in the SIPCOT Industrial Park and its surrounding areas in Thoothukudi district, at a project estimate of Rs. 2292.38 crore.
- The Tamil Nadu government is taking various progressive initiatives to create widespread industrial development across Tamil Nadu and improve the economy.
- Accordingly, in the last four and a half years, new SIPCOT industrial parks have been created in Thoothukudi to enhance the development of the southern districts and various companies including motor vehicle manufacturers are operating. In addition, a synthetic fiber spinning company, electronics manufacturing companies, and furniture manufacturing companies are set to operate.
- Apart from these, MoUs have been signed for setting up a shipbuilding factory, green energy production companies, and aerospace equipment manufacturing companies and construction work will be started soon.
- To further accelerate this development, the expansion of the Thoothukudi VOC port, the expansion of the airport and the Madurai-Thootukudi industrial corridors are a major impetus for the industrial development of the region.
- In continuation of this, in order to improve the balanced development of the region, as a major initiative, a desalination plant with a capacity of 60 million liters per day will be installed in Mullakkadu village, Thoothukudi district to provide water to the industrial enterprises, replacing the current use of the water of the Thamirabarani river.
- This project is being implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Model at a project cost of Rs. 2292.38 crore with 40 percent SIPCOT contribution and 60 percent contribution from the consortium of Sri JWIL Infra Limited, IDE Technologies India Private Limited, and Vishnusurya Projects Infra Limited.
- This project will ensure uninterrupted piped water supply not only to the enterprises located in the SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi but also to the industrial enterprises in the surrounding areas. Therefore, it is noteworthy that in the coming years, the water of the Thamirabarani River will be used only for public drinking water needs and agriculture.
