- The Central Government has released Rs. 213.9 crore under the 15th Finance Commission grant for rural local bodies in Assam. This is the first installment for the financial year 2025-26.
- This amount has been released for all 2,192 eligible Gram Panchayats, 182 eligible Block Panchayats, and 27 eligible District Panchayats in the state.
- The Central Government recommends the release of the 15th Finance Commission grant to the Panchayati Raj Institutions of the state through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Drinking Water and Sanitation).
- Subsequently, the Union Finance Ministry releases these funds. It is recommended that this amount be released in two installments in a financial year.
- The International Monetary Fund's January 2026 World Economic Outlook report states the following "India's GDP growth was stronger than expected in the third quarter. GDP growth continues to be robust in the fourth quarter.
- However, if the temporary factors boosting growth diminish, this growth could slow to 6.4 percent in 2026-27. Globally, growth will remain stable, with 3.3 percent growth in 2026 and 3.2 percent growth in 2027.
- Global growth is currently being dampened by changes in trade policies. However, this slowdown in growth is being offset by investments in technology and AI in South America and Asia."
- The IMF's forecast is almost identical to the central government's forecast. It is noteworthy that the central government had projected India's GDP growth for the 2025-26 fiscal year to be 7.4 percent.
