• 2026ம் ஆண்டின் உயரிய அசோக் சக்ரா விருது / ASHOK CHAKRA AWARD 2026: அமைதிக் காலத்தில், நாட்டுக்காகத் தன் உயிரைப் பணயம் வைத்து, அதீத துணிச்சலுடன் செயல்படும் வீரர்களுக்கு" வழங்கப்படும் இந்தியாவின் மிக உயரிய விருது தான் அசோக் சக்ரா.
• போர்க்களம் அல்லாத சூழலில், அசாதாரண வீரம் மற்றும் தியாகத்தை வெளிப்படுத்திய வீரர்களுக்கு ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும் குடியரசு தின விழா அன்று குடியரசுத் தலைவரால் இவ்விருது வழங்கப்படுகிறது. பல நேரங்களில், வீர மரணத்திற்குப் பின்னரும் (Posthumous) இவ்விருது வழங்கப்படுவது இதன் சிறப்பம்சமாகும்.
• 1952-ஆம் ஆண்டு "Ashoka Chakra Class-I" என்ற பெயரில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட இது, 1967-ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் "அசோக் சக்ரா" என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. நீலநிற ரிப்பனுடன் கூடிய பதக்கத்தின் நடுவில் அசோக சக்கரம் பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும். 
• இந்த விருது ராணுவம், விமானப்படை, கடற்படை, காவல் துறை அல்லது பொதுமக்கள் என தகுதிவாய்ந்த எவருக்கும் வழங்கப்படலாம்.
• இந்த ஆண்டு (2026), சர்வதேச விண்வெளி நிலையத்திற்கு (ISS) சென்ற முதல் இந்தியரான குரூப் கேப்டன் சுபான்ஷு சுக்லாவுக்கு (Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla) இவ்விருது வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. 
• விண்வெளிப் பயணத்தின் போது அவர் காட்டிய அசாத்திய மன உறுதி மற்றும் வீரத்தைப் பாராட்டி மத்திய அரசு இதனை அறிவித்துள்ளது.
• கடந்த 1984-ஆம் ஆண்டு விண்வெளிக்குச் சென்ற ராகேஷ் சர்மாவிற்குப் பிறகு, விண்வெளிப் பயணம் மேற்கொண்ட இரண்டாவது இந்தியர் மற்றும் சர்வதேச விண்வெளி நிலையத்திற்குச் (ISS) சென்ற முதல் இந்தியர் என்ற பெருமையை இவர் பெற்றுள்ளார். 
• 2025 ஜூன் 26 அன்று, NASA மற்றும் SpaceX நிறுவனங்களின் Axiom-4 (Ax-4) திட்டத்தின் கீழ் பன்னாட்டு குழுவினருடன் இணைந்து விண்வெளிப் பயணத்தைத் தொடங்கினார்.
• சுமார் 18 நாட்கள் விண்வெளியில் தங்கியிருந்த சுபான்ஷு சுக்லா, பல்வேறு அறிவியல் ஆய்வுகள் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பச் சோதனைகளை வெற்றிகரமாக மேற்கொண்டார்.
• ஜூலை 15, 2025 அன்று பூமிக்குத் திரும்பிய இவரின் இந்தப் பயணம், இந்தியாவின் எதிர்கால மனித விண்வெளித் திட்டமான 'ககன்யான்' (Gaganyaan) வெற்றிக்கு ஒரு மிகப்பெரிய ஊக்கமாக அமைந்துள்ளது.
• இந்த வரலாற்றுச் சாதனையை அங்கீகரிக்கும் வகையில், நாட்டின் 77-வது குடியரசு தினமான இன்று (ஜனவரி 26, 2026), இந்தியக் குடியரசுத் தலைவர் திரௌபதி முர்மு அவர்கள், குரூப் கேப்டன் சுபான்ஷு சுக்லாவுக்கு 'அசோக் சக்ரா' விருதை வழங்கி கௌரவித்தார்.

• ASHOK CHAKRA AWARD 2026: The Ashok Chakra is India's highest peacetime gallantry award, bestowed upon soldiers who display exceptional courage and selflessness, risking their lives for the nation.
• This award is presented annually by the President of India on Republic Day to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary bravery and sacrifice in non-combat situations.  A notable feature of this award is that it is often awarded posthumously.
• Introduced in 1952 as "Ashoka Chakra Class-I," it has been known as "Ashok Chakra" since 1967. The medal features an Ashoka Chakra engraved in the center and is suspended from a blue ribbon. This award can be given to any eligible individual from the Army, Air Force, Navy, police force, or even civilians.
• This year (2026), the award has been conferred upon Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to travel to the International Space Station (ISS). The central government announced this award in recognition of his extraordinary mental fortitude and bravery displayed during his space mission.
• He holds the distinction of being the second Indian to travel to space after Rakesh Sharma in 1984, and the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS). On June 26, 2025, he embarked on his space journey as part of a multinational crew under the NASA and SpaceX Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission.
• During his approximately 18-day stay in space, Shubhanshu Shukla successfully conducted various scientific experiments and technological tests. His return to Earth on July 15, 2025, has served as a significant boost to India's future human spaceflight program, 'Gaganyaan'.
• This historic In recognition of this achievement, on the occasion of the country's 77th Republic Day today (January 26, 2026), the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, honored Group Captain Subhanshu Shukla with the 'Ashok Chakra' award.
