50 Transgender Individuals Recruited into Tamil Nadu Home Guard
- A scheme to recruit transgender individuals into the Home Guard was announced by the Social Welfare Department in the 2025-2026 financial year. It was announced that in the first phase, 50 transgender individuals would be trained under the Chennai, Tambaram, Avadi, Trichy, and Coimbatore Police Commissionerates.
- Accordingly, eligible transgender individuals were selected and have completed their Home Guard training. Today, Chief Minister Stalin handed over the appointment orders to the selected transgender individuals.
- In the first phase, a total of 50 transgender individuals – 15 in Tambaram, 10 in Avadi, 7 in Madurai, 7 in Coimbatore, 6 in Trichy, and 5 in Chennai – have been appointed as members of the Tamil Nadu Home Guard after receiving training to assist the police in tasks such as traffic management and crowd control during festivals.
- At the Chennai Secretariat, Sarvam Company and the Tamil Nadu government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of an artificial intelligence data center with a funding allocation of ten thousand crore rupees.
- The MoU was signed by IIT Director Kamakoti and the Department Secretary along with Sarvam Company. An investment of ₹10,000 crore has been made for this project. High-paying D-Tech jobs will be provided to 1000 people, and this project will be very helpful to the people of Tamil Nadu.
- To encourage science and technology-based startups, the Tamil Nadu government has released India's first dedicated 'Deep Tech Startup Policy' (Deep Tech Startup Policy 2025-26) with a funding allocation of ₹100 crore.
- This policy was launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at the 'Umagine TN' international technology conference held in Chennai. This is an international technology and innovation conference organized by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- The conference is being held with the aim of transforming Tamil Nadu into a global tech hub and with the objective of creating a 'Future Ready Tamil Nadu'. Leading companies and researchers from sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, FinTech, HealthTech, and ClimateTech are participating in this conference.
