President Droupadi Murmu travels in a submarine
  • President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a journey in the INS Vagshir submarine of the Kalvari class from the Karwar naval base in Karnataka. She was accompanied by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi and other armed forces personnel.
  • It has been noted that President Droupadi Murmu is the second President to travel in a Kalvari-class submarine after former President Abdul Kalam. This submarine journey is part of the President's four-day visit to the states of Goa, Karnataka, and Jharkhand.
  • The late former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam travelled in a submarine on February 13, 2006, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Droupadi Murmu has the distinction of being the second President of the country to travel in a submarine after him.
  • Murmu, who holds the distinction of being the first President to travel in two fighter jets during her tenure, undertook two fighter jet journeys: in a Sukhoi 30 MKI in 2023 and in a Rafale last October.
Thailand-Cambodia Ceasefire
  • An agreement has been reached between the two countries to end the border conflict. This ceasefire came into effect at 12 PM local time on Saturday. Under this ceasefire, military movements and airspace violations by both sides must cease.
  • The statement mentioned that after the ceasefire lasted for 72 hours, Thailand should return the 18 Cambodian soldiers who were arrested during the clashes last July. Thai Defence Minister Natthaporn Nakpanich and Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Banh signed the agreement during a meeting at the border.
  • Thailand and Cambodia have a long-standing border dispute centered around areas including the Preah Vihear temple, an 11th-century Hindu temple. The UN's highest court ruled in 2008 that the temple belongs to Cambodia.
  • However, clashes have occurred periodically between the two countries due to the border dispute. As part of this, a five-day conflict between the two countries last July resulted in 48 deaths and displaced 300,000 people.
  • Following this, a ceasefire agreement was signed between Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, on October 26th, in the presence of Trump.  This agreement, initiated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, was expected to resolve the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia.
